John Edward Russell, 90, of Amarillo died on Wednesday, May 17, 2017. Holy rosary will be said at 6:00 pm on Friday, May 19, 2017 in LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Martin Road Chapel. Services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, May 20, 2017 in LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Martin Road Chapel. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Funeral Directors, 1505 Martin Road.
John Edward Russell was born on June 8, 1926 in Chesapeake, Missouri to Louis Earl and Maggie Rousselle. He graduated from Billings High School in Billings, Missouri. He served in the United States Navy during WWII serving on the Belleau Wood and he also served during the Korean War. He worked as a chemist at Bureau of Mines Helium Activity. He married Carolyn Rose Burgan on October 24, 1946 in Gerard, Kansas. He was a member of St. Laurence Catholic Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Carolyn, three daughters, Janie Stockett, Genieve Russell and Glynna Russell, a grandson Kris Van Robbins, one sister and four brothers.
He is survived by a daughter, Charolette Wagner and husband, Robert Roe; five grandchildren, Kim Reinauer and husband Art, Michael Dondlinger and wife Georgia, Angela Davis and husband, Tommy, Nikkole Wagner-Jenkins and husband Darick and Shon Wagner and wife Angie; seven great grandchildren Zac Dondlinger and wife Keegan, Issac Dondlinger, Destiny Miller, Jordan Miller and wife Destini, Cheyenne Wagner, Mackenzie Wagner and Malakai Miller; and six great great grandchildren.
