Macie Clarrena Spear, 81, of Amarillo died May 6, 2018. Memorial Services will be held May 12, 2018 at 2:00pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints located at 2101 N Coulter Street in Amarillo. Arrangements are by Lighthouse Funeral Home, 4207 S. 21st Avenue.
Clarrena was born November 25, 1936 to Norman Leslie and Cora Lee Dyer in Bokchito, Oklahoma. She attended high school in Phillips, Texas graduating in 1955 where she earned the nickname “Smiley” for her cheerful countenance and kind disposition. She then attended Frank Phillips College and West Texas State University graduating in three years with a Bachelor of Elementary Education degree.
She accepted a job in Fritch, Texas to teach second grade. This is where she met her future husband, Aubrey Alvin Spear, Jr., who was a coach and teacher at the same school. They began dating and were married on June 7, 1959 in Borger, Texas. That is when they began their journey through life together. It was quite a journey. They truly lived an American Dream. In May 1962, she and her husband walked on to the stage to receive a Master of Education degree. Soon after her graduation, on June 28th, she had a son. They raised three children and she taught for thirty years in several different schools before retiring from River Road I.S.D. in 1992.
Clarrena was a woman of faith. She was very active in her church until her failing health prevented her from attending. She loved the Lord and her Church with all her heart. Her family was her life. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is predeceased by her parents and one sister, Norma Lee Leake. She is survived by two daughters and a son. Leslie Schmidt and her husband, Steve, of Amarillo, Texas. Debra Cumbest and her husband, Jim, of Flower Mound, Texas. Aubrey Alvin Spear, III and his wife, Donna, of Lubbock, Texas. She is also survived by her husband of almost 59 years. She is survived by two sisters: Lavon Littel of Amarillo, Texas and Joy Cummings of Raton, New Mexico. She is survived by 10 grandchildren: David West, Jr. and his wife, Emily, of Dalhart, Texas; Kandas Graham and her husband, Dustin, of Amarillo, Texas; Joshua West of Wimberley, Texas; Aubrey Spear, IV (Brey) and his wife, Corrinas, of Conroe, Texas; Seth Spear and his wife, Tanlee, of Snyder, Texas; Heath Spear of San Antonio, Texas; Jimmy Cumbest, Lacie Cumbest, Dacie Cumbest, and Andy Cumbest of Flower Mound, Texas. She is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren.
