Margaret E Whitfield

Margaret E. Whitfield, 89, of Amarillo, died Friday, May 26, 2017.  Services will be at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at the Church of Christ at the Colonies, 4500 Wesley, Glen Walton, minister, officiating.  Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Margaret was born in a dugout near Guymon, Ok. on March 26, 1928 to Guy and Anna Watkins.  She graduated from Northwest Texas School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1949.  She worked in Guymon, Dumas, and Plainview.  She then worked at St. Anthony’s as a critical care nurse until her retirement in 1985.  She married John E. Whitfield on July 1, 1955 in Clovis, NM.  They had four children.  She was a member of Bell Avenue Church of Christ.  She was completely devoted to her husband and family.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Paula Ann Murray.

She is survived by her husband, John; two daughters, Kathy Lisman and husband Dan of Amarillo, Carolyn Arndt and husband Mark of Canyon; a son, Paul Whitfield of Amarillo; three sisters, Alice Batterman of Guymon, Peggy Tharan of Denver, Co., Kay Graham of Guymon; two brothers, Dick Watkins and wife Alice of Guymon, Jerry Watkins and wife Lou of Guymon; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family is grateful for the love and compassion given to Margaret during her residency at Amarillo Center for Skilled Care and her hospitalization at BSA.
