Michael Charles Mezger, 60, of Amarillo passed away on Wednesday, October 10, 2018. Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at Paramount Baptist Church with Pastor David Preston officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Garden Cemetery.
Michael was born on June 11, 1958 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Carl and Rochelle Mezger. He proudly served his country in the United State Marine Corps. He was relocated to Amarillo as a recruiter. After discharging from the Marines, Michael worked for the Amarillo Police Department and the Canyon Police Department. He was the D.A.R.E. officer for Randall County and was the D.A.R.E. Officer of the Year. Michael was also the liason officer at Canyon High School. Michael then went to work for the Randall County Sheriff's Department in the Crime Prevention division and achieved the rank of Sargent before retiring after eighteen years. Michael's career in the Marines and then with the various police departments ultimately ending up in crime prevention shows he had a heart that cared for everyone. He especially liked working with young adults. Michael had a huge heart for animals, loved to travel to Taos, NM and was a New York Yankee fan. His New York upbringing was clearly evident by his thick Brooklyn accent even after living many years in the Texas Panhandle.
He was preceeded in death by his parents and his sister, Denise Mezger.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy; two daughters, Khasi Campos and husband Rey and Danielle Ramos and husband Eli; two sons, Michael Mezger and wife Abby and Zachary Coleman; five grandchildren, Kalib Maszka, Carolyn Campos, Kailey Mezger, Natalie Mezger and Sunny Coleman and his aunt, Diana Marshall.
The family will be receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, Monday, October 15, 2018 at LaGrone Blackburn Shaw Coulter Road Chapel.
